History of creation of the Department
History of the department "Automobiles and Automobile economy " dates back to 1962, when the general maintenance department was created Department of general technical disciplines, uniting experts in theoretical mechanics, strength of materials, theory of mechanisms and machines, machine parts, drawings, general electrical engineering, materials technology and others. The first head was Associate Professor Dr. Kuz'menko, and since 1966 the department was headed by Bazhenov V. In the beginning all placed in the laboratory of 4 classrooms in rented housing Pedagogical Institute.
By 1970, created a well-equipped laboratory strength of materials, machine parts, theory of machines and mechanisms, study of theoretical mechanics.
Great contributions to the establishment of laboratory facilities have Bazhenov V., Zhuravlev A., Balyuk A., Tonyuk M., Redchyts I., Mihaylenko R. and others.
Since 1965 department carries out research for the national economy. In the same year, the department made the first State contract at the faculty. In 1970 Ministry of Education of Ukraine approved the Department of Engineering Mechanics, was organized by PhD. Bazhenov V.
From 1994 to 2011 GG Head of the Department of Engineering Mechanics worked professor, Ph.D. Ivan Grabar. Since its creation at the department conducted research. Accumulated over 30 years of experience in creating modern stands and their operation. Have been developed testing methods, principles of design and manufacturing of special booster stands created a range of booths for various purposes, including the stand of the largest in our country and in the world test chamber (diameter of the working area - 3500 mm).
Studies have been conducted on the compressor rotor turbines of small cycles fatigue to Zaporozhye company ZMKB "Progress"; engines AI-24, AI-25, E-36, E-136, E-18t (aircraft "Ruslan", "Dream"), motors American company «Textron Lykoming», the South Korean company «Samsung», engines Russian companies "Salute", "Union" and others. More than 20 years of department employees participated in the state program "Improving the reliability of aircraft engines" Since 2011, the department participates in the international project "Communication and information technologies for security and efficiency of traffic: European-Russian-Ukrainian master's and doctoral programs on intelligent transport of "517,374-Tempus-1-2011-1-RUTEMPUS-JPCR. Currently, the department conducted research work on traffic flows in order to Zhitomir Department of Industry, Tourism and Infrastructure Development Zhitomir Regional Administration. Moreover department continuously performs research commissioned by leading enterprises and service autotransport region and Ukraine. The Department had conducted II (1985) and Third (1990) All-Union symposium on fracture mechanics, II (1980) and Third (1991) All-Union Conference "strength of materials and structures at low temperatures," Conference "The strength of the elements of turbomachinery rotors" in 1981 g., Symposium "The strength of materials and structural elements under complex stress state" in 1989, in 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, the department was organized international conference "Modern technologies in the aerospace sector.
"In 2007, the department "Automobiles and mechanical engineering systems" initiated an international scientific conference "Modern technologies and prospects of road transport."

While working at the department defended their dissertations teachers: Hontarovskiy V., Hontarovska T., Balyuk A., Patsayev V., Grabar I., Statsenko V., Melnychuk S., Kolodnytska R., Shostachuk A., Ilchenko A., Titarenko V., Kubrak Y. Doctoral dissertation defended Grabar I. September 1998, the Department of Engineering Mechanics Zhitomir Engineering and Technological Institute renamed the Department of "Cars and mechanical engineering systems." On July 1, 2013 the department was reorganized into the Department of automobiles and automobile industry.
Today is graduating department that provides training at educational qualification of "Bachelor" in the areas of "Road transport" (since 1995), "Transport Technologies (by mode)" (since 2014) and educational levels "Specialist "" master "specialty" Automobiles and Automobile Industry "(" specialist "in 1995 and" Master "in 2001). Department staff car mechanics and engineering systems the first set of students in the specialty 7.090258 "Cars and Automobile Industry" was held in 1995 with road and graduates of Agricultural College. The department conducted scientific work. Active participation in research accepted as teachers and graduate students and undergraduates and students. The main areas of research Department are: intelligent transport systems; patency of the vehicle; use of alternative energy sources for automobiles; ride vehicle; strength frame structures;• Car navigation systems;• advanced methods of diagnosing and testing the car. With the development of science in the department develops laboratory and methodical department. So for laboratory and research involved in modern diagnostic equipment automotive companies of Zhitomir, that fosters excellence and Masters students of the department.
Department cooperates on major scientific with leading universities in Russia and Europe. So in the international project "Communication and information technologies for security and efficiency of traffic: European-Russian-Ukrainian master's and doctoral programs on intelligent transport systems" 517,374-Tempus-1-2011-1-RUTEMPUS-JPCR department cooperates with three Ukrainian universities, five Russian and four European universities. Oleksandr Kravchenko
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, Excellence in Education of Ukraine, Honorary Motor Transporter of Ukraine.
In 1973 graduated from Voroshilovgrad Institute of Machine-Building with the specialty "Automobile Transport".
In 2007 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Scientific bases of management of efficiency of operation of motorized trains" on specialty 05.22.20 - Operation and repair of means of transport.
In 2012 he received the title of professor of the department of autonomy and management of transport SNU them. V. Dahl.
He worked as the head of the department, dean of the East Ukrainian National University. V. Dahl.
In 2014, he works as a professor at the Department of Automobile and Automobile Economy of ZSTU.
The author of more than 480 scientific works (including one textbook, 10 textbooks, 4 monographs, 13 patents), an expert-factor 1.0, a member of the specialized scientific councils for the protection of doctoral and master's theses of NTU and ZSTU, a member of editorial boards of professional editions of KhNADU, LNTU and ZSTU.

Teaching Process
Science
One of the main activities of the faculty of the Department automobile and automobile industry, in addition to teaching is research, which usually involved students in the direction of 6.070106 "Road transport" and specialty 7.07010601 "Automobiles and Automobile Industry." Involvement in research and experimental and research work of future specialists significantly affect the level of professional training, obtaining necessary skills in planning experiments and optimization in design, statistical analysis of research results. Within the scientific school has 3 doctors of sciences and 6 Ph.D., providing training of the teaching staff or doctorate, postgraduate scientific specialty "Maintenance and repair of transport." The chair has defended 6 PhD theses 1 thesis submitted for defense in specialized academic council D26.059.03 at NTU.

- Rudzinskiy Vladimir - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, specialty "Maintenance and repair of transport" directs graduate research work of the department, the department of scientific seminar work and so on. Since 2007, the Department conducts the International scientific and practical conference "Modern technologies and prospects of road transport", which originates from the scientific workshop of the same name. The scientists made presentations at scientific conferences held in Russia, Poland, England, and many universities in Ukraine: National Transport University, Kharkov National Automobile and Highway University, Khmelnytskiy National University, Vinnitsa National Technical University and other relevant universities.
The teaching staff of the department participates in the preparation of textbooks. Over the last five years, teachers Rudzinskiy V., Kolodnytska R., Grabar I., Titarenko V., published six textbooks and prepared for publication a study guide teachers: Titarenko V., Rudzinskiy V.., Melnychuk S., Ilchenko A. and Shumlyakivskiy V. also in the last 5 years the lecturer received 10 patents and patents and filed one application for a patent. Teachers of the department constantly attract students to participate in national competitions and contests. In 2010, students Sinkevych M. Baluk and VU received certificates for their active participation in the second stage of Ukrainian students Olympiad in cars and automobile industry, student Trostenyuk Y. received gratitude for active participation in the second stage of Ukrainian Olympiad students strength of materials. In 2011, Melnick Y. received a second degree diploma for second place in the results of the second stage of Ukrainian students Olympiad in cars and automobile industry. In 2013 student Ovod V. received a second degree diploma for participation in the second round of the All-Ukrainian competition of scientific papers as "maintenance and repair of transport."
The scientific work of the department faculty and students in the last 5 years has been featured at many conferences. Overall in the last 5 years, together with the lecturer have published 24 articles in scientific journals and in conference proceedings.
